USEFUL : What to bring from Latvia?
1. Woolen mitten and socks with Latvian folk symbols.
Our knitters do more than just copy the ancient ornaments preserved in museums. They adorn their mittens and socks with signs and symbols of their own choice. Latvian weavers often use natural pigments from wild plants to dye their wool.

2. Ceramics.
The contemporary ceramics in Latvia is deeply rooted in the rich folk pottery traditions, particularly the ones developed in Latgale. In 1924 a ceramics master-workshop was opened at the Latvian Academy of Arts.

3.Amber
Is so called "Baltic Gold" and is a verry symbolic Latvian souvenir. You can see a a comparatively rich collection of amber in The Latvian Nature Museum. The largest archaeological and ethnographic amber collections are held at the Liepaja Museum of Art and History, the Latvian History Museum and the Latvian Institute of History. These are exhibited only in part, so visitors with a special interest need to apply in advance. Worked amber is sold at many souvenir and art shops in Riga, and, particularly during the tourist season, in squares and parks as well, mainly in the old town of Riga. It has different colours (starting from white to dark brown),and it comes in many different qualities(polished or coarse).

4.Riga Black Balsam.
Deliciously different, exceptionally smooth and velvety on the palate, Riga Black Balsam opens a whole world of sensations with its 24 ingredients. Subtle hints of linden blossom, birch bud, valerian root, raspberry, bilberry, and ginger as well as touches of nutmeg and black peppercorn tease the palate and come alive in the glass.
Riga Black Balsam, a most valued drink and the best gift of friendship, was first made in Riga in the middle of the 18th century. The legend has it that Empress Catherine the Great of Russia, having fallen ill during a visit to Latvia, was cured after drinking Riga Black Balsam.
Riga Black Balsam is carefully prepared in oak barrels, which allow its characteristic strength and the slightly bitter-sweet taste to develop. You will feel elixir's fruity aroma and its special taste with every sip. Enjoy it straight up, on the rocks, or mixed in a variety of cocktails.
