History Museum of Latvia [ Latvijas vestures muzejs ]
Visitors can view the evolution of Latvian people down to the Stone Age. The exhibits display a variety of themes including Bronze Age artefacts, ancient currency, folk costumes and traditional farming tools. Of particular interest are the black and white still photos of farmers demonstrating their specialised tasks. Rich collection of Latvian national costumes. Situated in the Riga Castle built in 1330, the museum's walls hold a rich history.

Occupation museum of Latvia
The museum provide information about Latvia and its people under two occupying totalitarian regimes from 1940 to 1991. An objective account of systematic attempts to destroy Latvia and its people by both Soviet and Nazi regimes. The unique artefacts and thematic exhibits on display provide an emotional testimony to the victims of totalitarianism and to the resistance movement. The tour ends with the regaining of Latvia's independence in 1991 the triumph of the people's un-relenting desire for freedom. . The main idea is to remind the world of the wrongdoings committed by foreign powers against the state and the people of Latvia and to remember those who perished, who suffered, and who fled the terror of the occupying regimes.

Latvian Photography Museum [ Latvijas fotografijas muzejs ]
This small museum covers the development of photography in Latvia from 1839 - 1941.The Museum answers the need for the collection, preservation and exhibition of national photographic values. Its research is directed into the history of Latvian photography as an inseparable and unique component of Latvian ethnic culture and into its role as part of the overall evolution of photography in the world. View antique equipment from the previous two centuries and the world's largest exhibit dedicated to the famous Latvian produced Minox 'spy camera.'

Latvian Railway Museum [ Latvijas dzelzcela muzejs ]
There are more than a thousand items, documents and photographs in the museum collection. Communications and signalling equipment, tools and instruments of railroad repairmen, uniforms and distinguishing badges, station interior objects, tickets and delivery notes are all on display. Station buildings and railway bridges built during the time of first Republic of Latvia, the history of the railway evolution in Riga city, as well as Latvian Railway personnel are shown in the exhibited documents and photographs.

Museum of Decorative Art & Design [ Dekorativas makslas un dizaina muzejs ]
Latvian tapestries, woodcuttings and porcelain are housed in this gallery/museum. The museum is located in the oldest stone building of Riga, the former y St. George's church, (13th century). You can also purchase local textiles and other souvenirs here. Teh display reflects the development of Latvian professional applied art design from the end of the 19th century up to the 90s of the 20 century.

Ethnographic Open-Air Museum [ Etnografiskais Brivdabas muzejs ]
Founded in 1924, the Latvian Ethnographic museum is one of the oldest open-air museums in Europe. Historical dwellings, peasants', fishermen's and artisans' homesteads, a tavern and windmills have been gathered here from all over Latvia. Masters of 18 different crafts demonstrate their work: spoon-carvers, bee-keepers, potters and others. Services are held at Usma Church every Sunday. The organ and folk music concerts and regular craft fairs that take place in the summer time are not to be missed. The collection contains 100 000 items.

Museum of Riga's History and Navigation [ Rigas vestures un kugniecibas muzejs ]
Riga History and Navigation Museum was founded in 1773. It is one of the largest and the oldest museums in Latvia, as well in the Baltic states. The number of items kept in the repository exceeds 500 thousand and they are of great cultural-historical and artistic value. The Museum compiles materials and gathers information on history of Riga city and history of Latvian navigation. It is situated in a building of Riga Dome Ensemble, which is an architectural monument of the 13th century. The repository of Riga History and Navigation Museum and the exposition halls present numerous of unique exhibits, interesting for Latvian and other countries' researchers.

Museum of War (Kara muzejs)
The mission of the Military museum is to save collective, historical memory of the nation about political and militarily history of Latvia, the influence of the military conflicts (especially 20th century World War) on the destiny of the nation and the reflection of these conflicts consequences, the historical character of Latvian soldiers and the popularization of the state defence system.
